Ear Irrigation
As per 'NHS Fife Wide Procedure for Ear Care including Examination and Irrigation', ear irrigation will only be carried out after a minimum of 4-weeks of the patient applying drops to soften wax
When cerumen (earwax) is observed on examination the patient will be advised to soften wax with olive oil, sodium bicarbonate or other cerumenolytic ear drops, two drops twice daily for 4 – 6 weeks.
Sodium Bicarbonate may be used but these can cause dryness.
